The 75th of the US Women’s Open will be played this week 10-13 December at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas. Organized by the USGA (United State Golf Association), it is one of the five major championships and it has the largest purse in women’s golf at $5,5 million.
The tournament will be played at Champions Golf Club which is made of two courses: Cypress and Jackrabbit, during the first two days the tournament will be played on both courses due to the shorter daylight time and the field composed of 156 players.
As a tradition of being a difficult tournament, no player has defended the title since Karrie Webb in 2000, the defending champion Jeongeun lee will have it difficult to retain the title.
The Women’s golf popularity is increasing in a steady manner as the television coverage is starting to increase as well, although it is still very low compared to men’s golf television coverage. An event such as the US Women’s Open will surely help in making women’s golf more popular.
