In this topic we will learn about the swing, the golf fundamental movement is the swing which is a rotational movement which allows the golfer to hit the ball. Learning how to swing is essential for all new golfers, and improving the golf swing is every golfers goal throughout their golfing careers. In this topic we will learn about two different things, the clubs to swing with and a breakdown of the movement.
The swing movements can be done with any of the clubs in the golfer’s bag except the putter, check the topic on how to use the putter for more information. Whether you’re hitting a short and precise shot with a wedge or a powerful shot with a wood the swinging action, so what makes up a golf swing, the swing is composed of four steps: starting position, the backswing, the impact and the finish.
The starting position refers to the positioning of the player facing the ball, the backswing describes the moment when the player raises their club above their shoulder, the impact is the phase of acceleration during which the club is brought down to hit the ball and the
finish after the impact which the golfer follows through with to end the swing.
In our upcoming three parts swing lessons, we will learn about the swing in detail, how to position the body and how to hold the club, then we will learn about body alignment to hit the ball in the correct direction and finally we will learn the backswing and impact.
If you don’t hit the ball straight away from the first trial, or if you find yourself uncomfortable with your body position or the grip, relax and don’t give up, learning the correct swing movements is a lengthy process and requires a lot of practice and adjustments, and don’t forget, swing learning is a lifetime process.
