Masters Tournament

THE MASTERS, one of the oldest tournaments in the history of golf and one of the most prestigious, the tournament known for the Green Jacket given to the winner, one of the four Majors if not the most important at the time. The Masters has a special place in every golfer’s ambitions and is the ultimate goal for any professional golfer, it is the only major tournament held annually on the same course, the famous Augusta National golf course with its great history.

The Masters tournament is held annually in the first week of April (except for the 2020 that was held in November), the first time the masters was played goes back to 1934, 87 years ago, is it the first major tournament of the year and is regarded as the best given the history of the tournament and the course. The winner gets a green jacket which is available only to the tournament’s winners, this jacket is kept by the winner for a year only, and then he returns it to the club, where all the winners’ jackets are kept.

The championship is known for its own set of traditions, in addition to the green jacket that the winner receives, which was launched in 1949, every Tuesday of the tournament week the Champions Dinner takes place in honor of last editions champion, the dinner includes only all the winners in the history of the tournament in addition to a group of the club’s board of directors, the opening ceremony of the tournament is celebrated with the presence of legends of the game, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus are honored to give the start in this era, and finally, all the players’ caddies wear the famous white jumpsuit during the competition.

Jack Nicklaus holds the record of six wins, followed by Tiger Woods who won five times and Palmer with four titles. Participation in the tournament is the dream of any golfer, as the qualification to the tournament is very difficult and often only the best players in the world can participate in the tournament.

The championship week is considered a sacred week for the sports fans. By Monday of the championship week, speculation and expectations about the competition and its importance for each player begin, and how difficult it is to participate in it, the tournament also gets a lot of attention from other sports fans. The Masters Sunday is a huge day for golf fans, as the climax of the championship is reached on Sunday afternoon, especially the back nine on Sunday where the tournament reaches its pinnacle and often the winner is decided in the back nine on Sunday.

The tournament is held at the Augusta National Golf Course, which is considered the best golf course in the world, the course that is taken care of throughout the year to the last details, if famous for its selected and distinguished members that does not exceed 300 at any time, joining the club is no easy as the waiting list is huge and the fees for the membership are only in the reach of rich people, many would like to become members but cannot. The course is 72 Par, 18 holes, each hole has its own name derived from a specific plant in the course, the Amen Corner is the most famous corner in the course and is often the place where players lose the tournaments, it includes the holes 11, 12 and 13. The 13th  hole is a reachable par 5, and is considered the key to winning the masters on the back nine in the final round.
