Around the green, there are many varieties of shots that we can hit, in other words the short game. The short game is very important for every golfer who is serious about getting lower scores, especially chipping, in this article we will describe the basics of chipping and how to improve it.
Because in chipping we use wedges that can go to 60-degree, we have to make sure that the leading edge does not come in contact with the ball first, therefore there three things we should for a good chip shot:
- First weight forward, the body weight should be on the front foot because if the weight is on the back foot the leading edge comes up.
- Hands Forward, that helps to create a degree that is almost opposite the wedge.
- Ball placement, if you want the ball to go low place on the back foot, if you want the ball to high place on the front foot, never place the ball between your feet.
These are very basic chipping setup that helps create consistent results, yet people are always struggling to follow them and this is mainly because they try to chip the ball while it is placed between the feet, you can never have consistent chipping if the ball is between the feet. Always remember to put weight and hands forward, then decide if you want the ball to go high or low then stand accordingly.
