Matthew Fitzpatrick wins the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. The Englishman on Sunday finished first ahead of lee Westwood who came second and won the Race to Dubai to be crowned the best player of the year in the European tour.
Matthew won the tournament by one stroke -15, ahead of westwood -14. He started the final round very strong with four birdies on his opening four holes to gain a comfortable lead, on the back nine he played very conservative trying to keep his lead and he was close to losing the lead, he said after the win: “It was just trying to make pars, not losing ground, it was a bit up and down on the back nine, but it was just about staying in it and maintaining the lead I built early on.”
On the Other hand, Lee westwood was crowned the winner of the race to Dubai title to become the european tournament best player of the season for the third time in his career, he also became the oldest with this title at 47 years old. The race to the title was very close with the american Patrick reed who was the leader entering the final week.
The European modified season due to the pandemic came to an end this Sunday in Dubai crowning the winner in an unfamiliar season of golf.
