The breakthrough competition model that was getting prepared behind closed doors came to light on Tuesday with an official announcement on social media titled “An open letter to the world of golf” detailing their plan for the breakthrough proposal.
The new proposed competition is scheduled to begin in January 2023, it is an 8-month long competition between the best 48 players in the world, it includes 18 events in total; 12 in the US and 6 around the world with every event having a purse of 20 million dollars, 4 million to the winner and the last takes home more than 150000$.
The announcement came less than a week before the start of the US Open, which is an indication that there are plans to rally the agents and players during the prestigious tournament. The main question remains, what is the number of players that are willing to sign to the breakthrough league which will determine the future of this proposed new Tour.
