With the completion of the second day of the thirty-second edition of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic championship, the question of when we will see an Arab player competing with world players comes to mind again, even after 32 editions of the Championship in Dubai, we find that the only two Arab players participating in the tournament have finished in the last and penultimate places.
Two Arab representatives, Shergo Al-Kurdi and Karim Al-Hali, participated in this year’s edition, but unfortunately they finished in the last and penultimate places in the tournament, so the participation of the Arabs again was only honorary. Certainly, the experience of the promising golfer Shargo will be very beneficial in his future, and he will benefit greatly from this tournament and the next tournament that will be held in Saudi Arabia. But the questions arise again: Are there no Arab players able to compete? Why don’t we see any player with the abilities of professional players? Although the Dubai Championship is more than thirty years old, it did not see any Arab capable of competing, so why?
Golf is a new sport in the Arab world, and the number of courses and players of this sport is not large. We hope that these tournaments and courses that are being established with all efforts made to promote and develop this sport will bear fruit, and we see Arab players who are able to compete with the giants of the game.
At the same time, we should pay tribute to the Moroccan player Maha Haddioui who is the first Arab professional able to compete with professional players in the ladies European Tour, and we wish her success in the new season and to all the Arab players who will participate in the tournaments all the success to advance this sport.
