In this topic we will learn how to position the body in the starting position getting ready to swing the club and hit the ball, to start practicing this it is better to use an open iron 7,8 or 9 as it is easier to hit the ball with this clubs. For the swing to be precise and effective, two elements should be taken in consideration: The grip and The posture.
The grip is the upper part of the club, and the place where you hold your hands, therefore it is the connection point between the body and the club, the grip controls the trajectory of the ball as well as a more precision of the swing. For right-handed golfers, the correct grip is as follows, place your left hand at the top of the grip with the thumb pointing down towards the head of the club, the weight of the club should rest on the knuckles of the last three fingers, then place your right hand a little lower in the same position, your hands should overlap each other, the little finger of the right hand slots between the middle finger and the index finger of the left hand (there are other varieties of this) this position is not very natural at first but it will become comfortable within a very short time of practicing and playing.
The correct stance can be as follows, position your body facing the ball, place your feet facing the ball, your feet should be parallel to the line between the ball and the target, let the club drop down in front of you, bend your knees a little and lean your torso slightly forward all the while maintaining a straight back, place the club in front of the ball and keep the club head aligned with the target. This is a correct starting position.
