Excitement Builds for GCC Golf Championship in Oman

The stage is set for the highly anticipated GCC Golf Championship 2024, bringing together young golf talent from across the Gulf. Hosted by the Oman Golf Association (OGA), the competitions will take place at the Ghala Golf Club from December 22 – 24, 2024.

A Showcase of Gulf Talent

The event features four exciting categories:

  • Under 13 Boys (GCC Gulf Cadet)
  • Under 16 Boys
  • Girls Above 16
  • Under 16 Girls (First Edition)

This year’s championship welcomes five participating countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. Each team aims to showcase exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and regional collaboration in a sport that continues to grow in popularity across the Gulf.

Oman’s Preparations and Aspirations

The Oman Golf Association has worked tirelessly to ensure smooth operations for the championship. The competition promises to provide a platform for young players to gain valuable experience, sharpen their skills, and prepare for future regional and international tournaments.

Oman’s junior golfers are particularly motivated to perform well, aiming for podium finishes and the opportunity to raise the Sultanate’s flag high.

UAE Looks to Defend Titles

Among the fierce competitors is Team UAE, which dominated the 2023 championship, earning three team Gold Medals and four individual medals. This year, the UAE Ladies and Junior National Golf Teams are back, determined to defend their titles and continue their legacy of success.

Key players from Team UAE include:

  • Ladies Team: Intissar Rich, Faye Al Blooshi, and Lara El Chaib. Intissar will defend her Individual Gold Medal.
  • Girls Under 16: Anca Mateiu and Sara Abubaker.
  • Boys Under 16: Mohammed Thabet, Tariq Khoory, and Abdulla Darwish.
  • Boys Under 13: Zayed Ali Abubaker, competing in his first international event.

The UAE delegation, led by EGF Vice President General Abdullah Alhashmi, expressed gratitude to Oman for hosting the event. “This championship is a vital platform for our athletes to grow and compete at the highest level,” he said.

An Event to Watch

The four-day championship kicks off with a technical meeting and practice rounds on Saturday, followed by the opening ceremony, which will be graced by HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association.

The tournament officially begins on Sunday, December 22, with daily rounds concluding on Tuesday, December 24.
