When Ines secured her card on the European tour last December, she had become only the second Arab to secure the card after fellow Moroccan Maha Hadioui, 9 months after, Ines made history by becoming the first Arab, First Moroccan and First North African golfer to win on a major tour.
When Ines entered the final round at the Skafto Open leading but ended up finishing T8, she thought to herself that her moment was coming and history is waiting for her. She didn’t let the setback affect her, and that’s a sign of a great champion.
By the end of play at Lacoste French Open, and with a tap in, Ines engraved her name in the history of a whole part of the word, by becoming the first golfer from the Arab world to win on a major golf tour. This is one of the greatest achievements in Arab Golf and one that will be marked for generations.
In her rocky year, and only the second Arab female golfer to have a full card on the European tour, Ines managed to exceed all expectations and put Arab golf on the map. She played 13 events on tour so far this year, registering four top ten, and a historic win at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
Ines entered the final round leading, she lost the lead after some holes, but a good final stretch secured her a playoff with MacLaren, which she won on the first hole.
With tears in her eyes, she said after the tournament: “It feels amazing, I don’t have any words to describe this.”
Adding: “Morocco is doing a great job in promoting golf and I think having a Moroccan winning on a major tour will be huge for the country and for the Arab world in general,”
What an amazing beginning to her professional career, securing a card on the European tour and getting the first win for Morocco in under a year. A bright future is definitely waiting for the young superstar.
